UAE Strengthens AI Leadership with New Federal Authority and Agentic AI Framework

The UAE has taken another major step towards building an AI-powered government with the establishment of the Federal Authority for Artificial Intelligence and Data. The new authority will serve as the unified national body responsible for artificial intelligence, data governance and digital government.

Reporting directly to the UAE Cabinet, the authority will be led by Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications. It will bring together the responsibilities of the UAE Artificial Intelligence Office, the Emirates Data Office and the Information and Digital Government Sector within the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority.

The authority will oversee the UAE’s national AI strategy, develop policies and standards for AI and data management, coordinate digital initiatives across federal and local entities, and support the growth of the country’s digital economy. It will also focus on strengthening national capabilities, cybersecurity and international cooperation in advanced technology.

The announcement follows the launch of a new government framework designed to deploy Agentic AI across 50% of UAE government sectors, services and operations within two years. The UAE aims to become the first government globally to implement Agentic AI at this scale.

Unlike conventional AI tools, Agentic AI systems can monitor developments, analyse information, make recommendations and independently complete a sequence of actions with limited human intervention. Within government operations, these systems are expected to support decision-making, improve productivity, reduce operating costs and deliver faster, more proactive services.

Federal government employees will receive specialised training to help them adopt and manage these advanced technologies. The performance of government entities and senior officials will also be assessed based on their progress in implementing the new framework and developing AI-driven working models.

Together, the new authority and Agentic AI framework reflect the UAE’s continued commitment to developing a more efficient, responsive and future-ready government. They also strengthen the country’s position as a global hub for artificial intelligence, digital innovation and technology-led economic growth.
